IKEA Hacks for Cats - Tackling the Litter Box

I have cats. Who doesn't right?! Well if you don't want your home to be overrun with cat related items, then you have to get very creative on how to keep them healthy and happy. I personally hate litter boxes. They smell, there is litter everywhere, and I can not seem to get them all to be happy with the enclosure. That was until a lovely shopping day at IKEA got me and my husband light bulbing! We decided that we needed a space big enough for our large Maine Coon cat to walk all the way into without having to stick his face into a wall and also to be able to turn around in. We also needed it to be safe for the other cats so that they don't feel confined or trapped.
Enter SAMLA clear box!
My husband cut out a hole in the front of the box and this allows our cats to see one another when they are coming or going. It also allows us to have a flat lid for the top that I can store the scooper and small dust pan and makes it very convenient to clean.
This however did not cut down on the litter everywhere problem. So we decided to cut a hole on the side and put a rug between the two and it has virtually eliminated our tracking problem. I only had to sweep the floor after two days rather than two to three times a day!
The other nice point is that the litter box is $14.99 plus $4.99 for the lid. This is so cheap that if it becomes damaged by too much scratching and I can not get it clean enough, I can just replace it and recycle the old one.You don't have to replace the lid each time so that is a one time expense. They also have wheels so it makes taking them to the backyard for thorough cleaning or moving them around an easy task.

I hope this helps you with your cat litter box needs. Please post a message if this helped you or if you have any great ideas to make living with cats even better!

As Always,
Live, Love, June
